The Forgotten Dimension of Freedom from Sexual Sin

Amidst a cottage industry of therapies (some of which are outstanding) for healing traumas, or maintaining sobriety of one kind or another, that almost always underlie sexual sin and brokenness, vital spiritual elements that are indespensible to the process of permanent change, are too often neglected!

In fact, in most cases, attention should first be given to salvation, sanctification
and the development of intimacy with God the Father before any
man-derived counseling program can have any lasting effect.

Note: Emergency situations involving traumatic child abuse (and other extreme traumas) may need to be addressed on both fronts simultaneously in order to keep the person safe and from self-harm.

We must focus primarily on developing an intimate relationship with God the Father, for it is from that relationship that the revelation, direction and power comes that will enable us
to see significant freedom that “keeps us from falling” (see Jude 24 and 2 Peter 1:3-11).

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. A righteous man may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all.
(Psalm 34:18-19)

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
(Psalm 147:3)

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on Me (Jesus), because the Lord (the Father) has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives and release for the prisoners…..
(Isaiah 61:1-3; see also Matthew 11:28; Luke 4:18-19)

When I surrendered my life to Jesus Christ, it was in the pursuit of a relationship with the Father that almost all of my deliverance, healing and revelation came. It was enormously effective because revelation of the root causes came from an omnicient God, as did the power that was necessary to deflect the onslaught of temptations that the evil one continued to send.

It was in that love relationship with God that my will was transformed, so that I resisted sin because I loved Him and had learned to be completely dependent on His power to quench the fiery darts of the enemy (Ephesians 6:16; Philippians 2:12-13; 2 Corinthians 1:21).

During that time, the Lord also surrounded me with men and women of God who guided me through the labrynth of cause and effect for my sin and brokenness. The primary focus, however, was not on my brokenness per se but on the pursuit God, (in prayer, praise, worship and Scripture-reading),
who then revealed the keys to freedom from my bondage and brokenness.
